This tone and response is only enhanced by Yamaha's original Air Seal System process. By cutting the maple in plies, positioning them with staggered diagonal seams, and sealing them together with even air pressure, Yamaha ensures that each drum shell is uniformly round and thick. The process also adds up to superior tone quality and durability over time.
High-tension lugs and sturdy bass drum spurs
The precision-machine lug nuts in the Yamaha Recording Custom shell pack deliver noise-free control, thanks to a springless casing design. Also included are sturdy spurs, with a hexagonal design and a fixed-angle position. The spurs can be easily height adjusted and released and retracted, using a drum key.
Yamaha's premium YESS mounting system
Yamaha's YESS (Yamaha Enhanced Sustain System) has long been found on their highest end drum kits, and is an especially welcome feature on the Recording Custom series toms and floor toms. This rod clamp system lets you attach the drum to the tom holder, without needing a hole in the drum shell for the rod to pass through. The YESS clamp attaches to the shell at the nodal point with two bolts, allowing the shell to vibrate freely - without degrading its dynamic range and sustain.
Ball clamp and triple tom holder
Yamaha's round ball clamp is made of a super-hard resin, held firmly in place with a steel plate and a large wing bolt, and the triple tom holder can accommodate two toms as well as a cymbal holder, giving you a range of setup possibilities.
