Untitled DocumentBOSS PW-10 Wah: Modeling Hits the Floor What's up with Wah? The PW-10 V-Wah from BOSS, the first pedal to apply Roland's famous COSM® modeling to the world of the wah. Instead of having to collect every great-sounding wah pedal, not to mention going through the hassle of keeping them running (since most of them are mechanical disasters) Roland's BOSS division turns you on to six of the great classics plus two all new modes, 'Voice' and 'Double Resonance', that are likely to become new favorites. Here's a challenge: can you decode Roland's clever designations? CBY-Wah: guess that one is Cry Baby™, but of course that's a trademark, so Roland doesn't want to use it. VO-Wah: methinks we have a Clyde McCoy™ Vox Wah setting here. MO-Wah is undoubtedly the unique sound of the Morley™ wah pedal, while Uni-V neatly captures the rotary speaker effect of the original Univibe™. Hey, we're good! The new Voice mode runs through the vowel sounds, practically making your guitar gently speak, while Double Resonance starts to cut in on the synthesizer action that keyboardists like to hold over mere guitarists. Here's a chance to strike back! There's also Advanced mode, with wide-ranging filter settings and Bass mode, optimized for low end. How easy is it to change sounds? Three user memories can be activated by the heel pedal switch, so just load up your favorites and go to town.
Overdrive is also happily represented in the PW-10. The V-Wah delivers BOSS classics like OD-1 OverDrive, OD-2 Turbo OverDrive, MT-2 Metal Zone, DS-1 Distortion and BD-2 Blues Driver, as well as "Muff Fuzz', 'Guv Dist' and Boost settings. More trademark avoidance, but you get the point. A Drive knob lets you dial in the exact amount of overdrive you desire. The unit is worth its price alone just for the diversity of distortions!
While the other guys are fiddling with potentiometer cleaner and screwdriver adjustments, you'll be playing away with the V-Wah, thanks to infrared sensors that assure noise-free long-term operation — no cleaning, no parts to wear out. There's also no obnoxious 'click' when you turn the pedal on. One final feature: a five-year warranty, standard for BOSS products. When you build them right to begin with there's no problem.
