Behringer Ultragain™ Pro: Tube Microphone Preamp and Much More
The Ultragain Pro MIC2200 starts out with two channels of preamplification, suitable for both microphones and instruments. A transformerless input stage based on ultra-low-noise 2SA1084 discrete conjugate transistor pairs is followed by a 12AX7 tube second stage for the warmth and musicality of tubes, without the poor noise spec that's typical of all-tube preamps. Each channel offers two tone-shaping features: a completely variable Hi-Pass (Low Cut) filter, adjustable from 12 to 320Hz, and a fully parametric band of EQ, covering 10Hz to 20kHz with bandwidth adjustable from 0.03 to two full octaves. EQ Bypass switches the EQ totally out of the signal path. Up to 60dB of gain is available for microphone sources, and +48V phantom power and polarity (phase) reverse are selectable on individual buttons per channel.
Level Matching, Line Balancing Are Useful Tricks
The Ultragain Pro is fitted with an independent Line Driver that convers -10dBV signals up to the professional +4dBu standard. Since inputs and outputs are fully servo balanced, the unit can act as a direct box, converting unbalanced instrument signals to balanced format, so that cables of virtually any length can be used without picking up interference and noise. With ultra-wide bandwidth (2Hz ~ 20kHz,) frequency response from 10 Hz to 200 kHz, ±3 dB and a noise spec > 94dBu unweighted, the Ultragain Pro is a top performer that will be at home anywhere from a personal setup to the most professional studio. Mic input is balanced XLR; line in offers both XLR and 1/4" TRS; and fully servo balanced outputs are on both XLR and 1/4" TRS jacks.
