MPC1000: Good Things Come In Small Package Akai's MPC series have been adopted worldwide for the production of sequences, drum tracks and loops. They combine a full-featured drum machine and MIDI sequencer with 16 velocity and pressure sensitive, highly-responsive pads. Now Akai has brought the full functionality of the MPC interface down to an incredibly affordable level with the MPC1000. The package is very compact, about the size of a small laptop computer. A great feature that makes the MPC1000 particularly computer-friendly is the USB Port, which allows data to be dragged between a computer desktop and the unit (it is compatible with USB MASS STORAGE CLASS, so the MPC1000 will basicallly appear to be disk drive to your computer.) Akai has also added a Compact Flash slot that works with cards up to 2GB - - this offers a very quick, ultra-convenient way to store loads of samples and sequences. The sampling section with 32-voice polyphony comes with 16MB of memory, easily and inexpensively expanded via 144-pin memory to 128MB. This provides up to 24 minutes and 28 seconds of mono recording, all at 44.1kHz sampling rate using linear (not compressed) format. Another five megabytes of memory is filled with preset percussion tones. A dual effects processor has you covered for Chorus, Flanger, 4-band EQ, Bit-Grunger, Compressor, Phaser, Tremolo, Auto Pan and Reverb effects, plus a Master Effect delivers 4-band EQ and Compressor. The sequencer section can handle up to 100,000 notes with resolution of 96 parts per quarter note (96PPQN.) Each sequence can contain up to 64 tracks. Songs can be composed with up to 250 steps per song. On the MIDI front you'll find two outputs supporting a total of 32 channels. Up to four sets of sounds (Pad Banks) can be loaded on to the sixteen pads. Sync is via MIDI clock. Balanced TRS 1/4" inputs are provided for the two recording inputs, and you'll find similar balanced connections for the stereo output as well as the four independent outs. Digital input and output is also fitted, in the form of coaxial RCA-pin S/PDIF connections. The MPC1000 offers the essence of the MPC series in a package that travels anywhere, at a price that makes it exceptionally easy to own.

The MPC1000 inherits many of the major features of older MPCs such as the legendary 'feel' and 'groove' so that you can be sure that your beats and sequences swing. It also features the original MPC60’s intuitive transport and locate controls, the unique NOTE REPEAT function plus new additions such as the two Q-Link sliders that allow real-time interaction with tuning, filter cutoff, layer switching, attack and decay. Add to these a well established, friendly and intuitive user interface, two separate multi-effects processors plus a master output effects processor, resonant multi-mode filters, 4-way sample layering and velocity switching per pad, two MIDI ins and 32 MIDI channels via the two MIDI outputs, multiple audio outputs as standard, footswitch inputs for hands-free control and you have a dependable alternative to computer sequencer headaches. The MPC1000 comes with 16MB of on-board memory as standard that can be expanded up to 128 MB of RAM. It includes internal preset sounds in flash memory (factory sounds are user-replaceable). Standard Compact Flash is used as the storage medium. A 32MB Card is included and present testing has verified the use of up to 2GB cards. Furthermore, the MPC1000 supports the ‘Mass Storage Class’ USB standard. When connected to a Mac or PC via its built-in USB port, this implementation allows to simply drag & drop data between the computer and the MPC1000's CF card. A compact dedicated hardware sequencer/sampler that works well with computers too. Simply put, a real Akai MPC at an affordable price. |
