|  Subwoofers are generally unpowered (They require a separate audio amplifier unit to send appropriate powered signals to the subwoofer). Subwoofers are used to pump out the low end bass tones (Subwoofers are tuned to the audio wavelength range under 200 hertz) Most subwoofers have a switchable or adjustable cross-over wavelength that can be fine tuned to your situation. The subwoofer cross-over is the hertz/wavelength at which the subwoofer amplification drops off and the main speakers (PA speakers) take over. The subwoofer cross-over range is usually between 100 and 200 hertz.
