| Hybrid Tube Guitar Combo Amps usually use an analog vacuum tube for the preamp with a solid state power amplification section. The smaller preamp tubes (usually 12AX7s or similar) add warmth to the tone before it hits the main power amplification section.
While the sound of a hybrid tube amp is warmer and richer than their fully solid-state counterparts, the real sought after tube tone of the pros is relegated to All-Tube Amps, with larger 6L6 or EL84 tubes for the main power amplification stage.
